Change of Focus, New Leadership

Posted on June 24th, 2008 by Kryssie

Not many may know or remember, but NuFone was started on a whim in 2001 as a project to prove the commercial viability of the Inter-Asterisk eXchange (IAX) protocol and the Asterisk PBX. Unfortunately, not a whole lot of thought was put into developing a viable business model around such a service.

However, with the support of very loyal customers, NuFone has became one of the premier Asterisk friendly VoIP providers. Now, this does not mean we are without serious flaws. One flaw, as others see it, was the decision to limit the availability of ‘free’ support services. Another was the lack of any particular focus or direction…. just to mention a couple.

Over the past few years NuFone has been very seriously struggling to keep current customers happy, but at the same time refine our products and services into a more viable business model, one that directly includes customer service and support. This process has been unnecessarily long and drawn out, due to high levels of fraud, federal investigation, litigation and unfortunate internal politics.

Times are finally changing for the better at NuFone.

Effective immediately a new CEO will take over the day-to-day operation, as well as the business and partnership development aspects of NuFone. We will make a formal announcement of the new CEO and his background sometime next week.

Another major change will be the phase out of our current ‘pre-paid, instant gratification’ model. Don’t worry….All active NuFone customers will be grandfathered and will not experience any change in pricing or policy for at least the foreseeable future.

This is a very difficult decision that was not taken lightly. We realize the success of NuFone has came from the ease of entry and usage of our VoIP services. However, at the same time we made it very easy for those unscrupulous individuals looking to take advantage of anyone and everyone using our services to facilitate their phishing and spoofing tactics.

Not any longer…

Effective immediately all new NuFone accounts will be subject to additional manual verification processes before any services will be available for usage. We have also implemented limitations on all new NuFone accounts…Account limitations and the process to remove limitations will be well documented within the NuFone Members portal.

NuFone will also begin to focus its efforts on providing hosted and premise based PBX services and will continue providing Asterisk and OpenSER consulting services.

Within the next couple weeks, NuFone will also announce the Public Beta availability of Hosted PBX solutions geared to small and home-based businesses.

We will also begin hosting regular podcasts / vidcasts / webinars / etc to continually document what is happening at NuFone.

We hope you are satisfied with your NuFone service, if not do not hesitate to contact us by submitting a trouble ticket or giving us a call (you never know, you might get to talk with the new CEO :) We do appreciate your business and look forward to continue providing reliable, cost effective VoIP services in the future.

If you are not yet a NuFone customer, what are you waiting for?! When you sign up for NuFone services, you will be in direct contact with a friendly NuFone representative that will walk you through the process of getting set up and making your first VoIP phone call as quickly and painlessly as possible.
